Each year in Pennsylvania and Ohio alone, hundreds are killed and thousands more are injured in traffic collisions. The Law Office of Norman J. Barilla, helps you get fair compensation for your loss or injury. Although some collision cases involve significant injuries, we can also help you get compensation for “less severe” injuries as well. Here we have provided answers to some frequently asked questions regarding automobile collisions:

Why should I hire an attorney?

The insurance company representing the person who is responsible for your injuries wants to pay you nothing, or as little as possible, for your suffering. They are solely motivated by keeping their money. If you do not hire an attorney, you may be certain that they will take full advantage of your lack of knowledge to see that you are not properly compensated. Simply put, an attorney can help you when you are unable to help yourself.

I can’t afford to pay you a fee to help me. What do you charge?

Our fee for representation in a personal injury automobile collision is a contingency fee. This means the fee is a percentage of the amount collected for you.

I don’t have the money to pay for my medical bills. Can you get them paid?

If you have your own automobile insurance, you may have coverage for a limited amount of medical expenses. We can help determine this for you and obtain this benefit without charging you a fee.

My car is totaled, but the insurance company is only offering half of what I think it is worth. What can be done?

Property damage disputes are the most perplexing part of most collision claims. We can help you through the negotiating maze. If we take your personal injury claim we charge no fee for assistance with property damage settlements.

What is my case worth?

The answer to this question depends on a variety of factors and cannot be answered without information regarding the injury, medical bills, loss of income, permanency of injury and other questions. There is no rule of thumb by which cases are evaluated. Each set of facts is different.

Do all cases result in a trial?

Most cases are settled without an actual trial. Sometimes cases are prepared for trial but settle at the last minute. Every effort is made to maximize the value of the case with the least expense to you. Settlement is often a way to do this in a cost effective way. However, if your case cannot be settled on satisfactory terms, we are ready to try your case before a jury.

How long will my case take?

If a case proceeds all the way to trial, in most instances, this will occur within 1 (one) year of when suit is filed. However, cases that are settled usually take less than half that amount of time.
